babies and names.

There are so many names surrounding the arrival of a new baby. It isn't just about deciding what to name your child these days. It is also about figuring out what everyone else will be called too. Grandparents. Aunts. Uncles. Your friends. Yourself!

For instance, here in Australia I would be known as a "mum" or "mummy". But let's be honest. I am not a mUm. I am a mOm. Or a mOmmy. Or even a mAmma. But by no means will I be a MUM (thankyouverymuch).

And then there are the grandparents.

Now I haven't had a chance to ask Max's mum and Matt what they would like to be called, but I do know what my parents are going be to called. When my nephew, Jack, was born 2.5 years ago my parents decided on their grandparent names. My mom decided she would like to be called "Mimi". Mimi is a common Grandma name in the south and to be honest- one of my favourite Grandma names (good choice mom!).

My dad, on the other hand- he didn't pick something normal like Grandpa or Gramps or Pop or even just asking the grandkids to call him Jim. No- he chose something so crazy and unusual that I am actually considering not even telling you... but I will.

KING.... 2.5 years ago my dad jokingly said he would like all of his grandkids to refer to him as King. We all laughed and joked about it, but 2.5 years and many birthday and Christmas cards later HE IS STILL GOING BY KING. Mimi and King... :)

And of course, the most important name to decide on is the name of your actual child. We had some trouble coming up with a name that we just LOVED but I am happy to report that we have finally made a decision and are ready to reveal baby de Baugy's name!

We wanted something unique but not too different (like Shoe or Brick). So we ended up with a name that is common here in Australia, but pretty much unheard of in the States. The best of both worlds if you ask me.

So what is it??

Lachlan James de Baugy!

15 September 2012- NAME003

It is pronounced "Lock-lin" (for those of you who have never heard this name before) and it was the 5th most popular name in Queensland in 2011.

Untitled

We chose James for his middle name because it is a family name in both of our families- not to mention it is also a part of his big brother's name (Byron James) which I think is pretty cool :)

  1. Your blog is so adorable, & one of my absolute favorites to read! A kid in my 1st grade class was named Lachlan, but he mostly went by Lockey (Lachy? I was in 1st grade... no idea how he spelled it!). Great name! Congrats & PPL
