boxing day.

Boxing Day is traditionally a day following Christmas when wealthy people in the United Kingdom would give a box containing a gift to their servants. Today, Boxing Day is better known as a bank or public holiday that occurs on December 26, or the first or second weekday after Christmas Day, depending on national or regional laws. It is observed in the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and some other Commonwealth nations.

Thank you Wikipedia!

Now that I live here in Australia I am able to enjoy yet another new holiday... whoo hoo! And Boxing Day led us to serval new places around Coffs.

Boxing Day

After our massage at the resort (thank you Santa!) we set off to explore some other new areas.

First stop, Bellingen. Bellingen is little town best known as the creative heart of the Coffs Coast. Max and I would probably describe it as a bit hippy and alternative (as in the woman working at the coffee shop must have lost her razor kind of place- if you catch my drift).

Like the good photographer I am, I forgot to take pictures here except for a few on my iphone. However, there really wasn't much to see in Bellingen, but the drive there through the subtropical rainforest was beautiful! After some lunch and cold beers at the pub we jumped back in the car and kept driving west.

Next stop: Dorrigo

Unfortunately my camera battery died here in Dorrigo and this was the only picture I was able to take. But, a lot like Bellingen, there wasn't a whole lot to see.

After doing a bit of window shopping (as most places are still closed on Boxing Day) we drove further out of town to Dorrigo Falls.

It was beautiful! So beautiful I just had to go for a little swim. Max wasn't really too excited about the freezing water so I was all alone in this one. Totally worth it though.... except for the fact that I was scared something might jump out of the water and eat me the whole time. Other than that- totally relaxing :)

There were a few other little stops we made on the way home but it was starting to get late and a Boxing Day afternoon nap was calling my name! Plus we had a get up bright and early the next day for our WHITE WATER RAFTING adventure. I don't have the pictures from this yet, but let me tell you- it was an adventure!!  But more on that later...

Instead I'll just highlight this little beach we stopped at on our five hour drive back to Brisbane.

Arrawarra is a tini tiny beach town just north of Coffs. Max had heard about it from a couple we met while rafting and wanted to check it out on our way home. I think he fell in love :)

It was small and simple and had these perfect little waves for long boards.

It was the perfect conclusion to our little Christmas get-a-way!
